I stalled out on the ![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
snowflake_challenge last week, but I have every intention of seeing it through again this year. I don't like doing multiple days under cuts in one big entry, so I will probably continue to do them in individual posts and won't try to catch up before it's over. I probably won't post more than two entries per day, so there's no need to worry about spamming, either.
In the absence of posting, I haven't exactly been idle. I wen to Disney's California Adventure last Friday. It was... fine. I wasn't in the mood to go on anything fast or wet (even though it was surprisingly warm that day), so California Screamin' and Grizzly River Run were out. Plus, Tower of Terror had permanently closed to make it into a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, so that was out. We did go to see the new Frozen stage show, which I enjoyed, but I feel that it is ultimately less engaging than the Aladdin show they used to have. I think that I saw the Aladdin show roughly ten years ago, so who knows what I would have to say about it now. I actually prefer Frozen when it comes to movies, but I feel like Aladdin is better paced for a stage musical. Of course, the surprise popularity of Frozen meant that Disney wanted to capitalize on it somehow.
The tickets were a gift from my aunt, and they are good for both parks. I chose California Adventure first because I wasn't much in the mood for excitement and crowds when I was just getting over a cold. California Adventure is less demanding but ultimately less nostalgic for me. My main reason for wanting to go to the Disney parks was to recapture that feeling of childhood excitement, so it was ultimately a bit of a letdown in that regard. I think I'm just losing my tolerance for crowds and noise, and the tickets for any Disney parks are ridiculously expensive now.
Unfortunately, the two-day tickets have an expiration date, so that means I will have to go to Disneyland sometime this weekend. Fortunately, I feel much more up to dealing with the crowds and walking than I did last weekend. Like I said, Disneyland is ultimately more nostalgic for me, so I'm kinda excited. Plus, I'll be interested to see their Star Wars stuff since apparently I'm getting into that now. After that, I think I'm done with theme parks for a while. I went to the special Leakycon private event at Universal Studios in October and enjoyed it, but other than that, I may be outgrowing the whole theme park thing and becoming a boring adult. Either that or it's the depression talking, but theme parks are too expensive for me to continue going if my heart's not in it.
Then, I woke up the next morning and realized that the deadline forchocolateboxcomm was that Saturday. Since that was my one successful exchange last year, I didn't want to break with something that could soon become a tradition, so I panicked and threw together a sign-up at the last minute. I... probably requested too many different pairings and fandoms for my own good, but it's just so fun anticipating what random surprises I might receive. Of course, it was a pain to scramble to throw together a letter for all those pairings in such short notice, but I did it and sincerely hope it doesn't suck.
I got my assignment on Monday. I'm both excited and nervous about it because I want to produce something good. I was already planning on treating my recipient before I got the assignment, so I already have an idea and have written some of it out. The trouble is pulling it all together and making it into something that lives up to the expectations in my head. I think canon review will help because I feel uncertain about writing for this fandom and want to get the characters just right.
During all of this excitement, I've been trying to keep up with my reading and writing goals for the year. I still have some comments that I need to reply to as well. I also started binging the podcast Wolf 359 last week, so I should make a post on that soon or whenever I'm caught up.
