Day 09

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include
a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I've been meaning to write up a New Year's resolution post, so I'm glad that this was today's challenge.

Write More: This is my main goal of the moment and the entire reason that I am taking a creative writing class this spring. I'm already very proud of myself for writing something for [community profile] snowflake_challenge, but I want to continue to do more. I'm not sure if it is a good or wise idea to set a specific goal, though. Right now, I've started working on my [community profile] chocolateboxcomm fic, so that's my priority. I suspect that that fic will end up surpassing the word count minimum, and I know I will want to write treats if I am able. I will also count my academic writing as part of this goal because it is important to me as well. Just as long as I write and try to hone my skills.

Read more: I am actually very pleased with my reading accomplishment for 2015 because I was able to surpass my goal of fifty books. I think that's the most I've read in my life. However, I know I can do better if I set my mind to it. I set my goal for eighty books this time, and I know I can make that goal if I stick to a schedule and choose a lot of shorter books. I haven't gotten off to a great start, but I am staying hopeful because the year is still young. I also intend to read at least one of the Norton Anthologies of British Literature from cover to cover because my professor recommended that all English majors do so. I will probably try to read the second volume first because the newer works may be easier for me to digest, and I hope to document my journey through this anthology in writing. I've been kicking around the idea of using another blog for that. If I can, I will try to squeeze some rereads in because it's getting to be the time to do so.

Finish watching all of Doctor Who: I really need and want to get this done in 2016. I've been coming at Doctor Who in a weird way because I have seen seasons one and two in their entirety, most of season three, season eight and onward, but nothing in the middle. I started watching it from the beginning when my professors' and classmates' enthusiasm finally got me to take the plunge. I intended to watch the whole series before season eight began, but that didn't happen, so I just started watching season eight with some confusion and fit in older episodes here and there. I want to close that gap at last, and it's totally doable.

Try all the new and old fandoms that I've been hearing about: I'm glad that I finally gave into listening to the Hamilton cast recording, but I can do so much better this year. I'm not going to make a list right now, but there are so many popular fandoms that I need to try. Odds are that I haven't tried it if it isn't mentioned on my profile page already. I don't want to fall any further behind.

Work on my personal life: This is probably my hardest goal because it doesn't involve playing around in imaginary worlds or writing essays. I've put most of my energy into schoolwork because I've always been good at it and it's a more comfortable place for me. Since this is my last semester at my current college, I really want to make it count and go out of my comfort zone even if it's just a little bit. This means socializing and getting more involved in campus activities among many other things. Maybe for just a little while I can be something more than the quiet nerd or the disabled girl. There are so many things I wish to improve in my life, and I hope to make a valiant effort this year. It's a bit overwhelming to think about it, but I'm edging ever closer to thirty and change is definitely needed. I hope that I will be able to procrastinate less and prioritize more without making myself feel too stressed.

Exercise more: Along with writing, this is another thing that can help me manage stress. Plus, there are the physical health benefits to consider. I know that I just feel better when I exercise, but the hard part is committing to putting it in my schedule. I don't have a gym membership, so it's hard to go out to exercise when it's very cold or rainy. I want to download the Zombies Run app to my phone because I think it will be a good motivator

I could put more, but it's good to start small, isn't it? I will have my hands full with these goals already, and any additional goals could probably fit under the above categories. At least I know that many of these goals are common, so I won't be alone in trying to live a better life in 2016.

When things seem overwhelming, I find it helps to just focus on small steps. All of these goals seem reasonable, and achievable. Go you!
